The 2021-2022 NCAA Soccer season was a phenomenal year for Asian student-athletes, athletes from Princeton, Harvard, Caltech, Yale, Stanford, Northwestern and the University of Pennsylvania all represented Asia in Golf.





Highlight Series
The Highlight Series is an ongoing content series where PacificPine Sports seeks to highlight top-performing & breakout Asian student-athletes in collegiate sports ranks in the USA. In its first edition, we will highlight 10 NCAA male golf athletes at leading academic institutions, representing universities ranging from the Ivy Leagues to Stanford, Duke, and the University of California, Berkeley.





Nathan HanColumbia University

Nathan Han attained a plethora of prestigious accomplishment in the 2021-2022 season, including being named GCAA PING All-Region Honoree, Ivy League Player of the Year, First Team All-Ivy, and the William Terminello Award, where he posted the team’s best season stroke average. In addition to a standout golf season, Nathan exhibited excellent grades and achieved Academic All-Ivy League honors. As a first-year, he led the Lions with a 72.69 stroke average (945 strokes in 13 rounds) and top-25 finishes. His average ranks were fifth among all-time top single-season records. He established a new school record for the best single-season stroke average for a first-year golfer. He also set a school record for par-4 scoring and his career-low round was a 71, established 5 times.






Brian Ma
Harvard University
Brian Ma attained a team honour from PING Northeast All-Region. Brian led the Ivy League with a scoring average of 71.89 shot par and finished 11th in his first Ivy League Championship. Apart from his remarkable achievements on the course, Brain was named COOP Student-Athlete of the Week in October after becoming an Academic All-Ivy selection. Brian’s current major is in Economics.






Jason LiuDartmouth College

Jason Liu exhibited extraordinary talent allowing him to attain several awards, namely All-Ivy League First Team. Prior to this season, Jason was named All-Ivy Second Team in 2019, and All-Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2018. Apart from his talent in golf, he demonstrates excellent academic achievements and was named Academic All-Ivy Men’s Golf Team in 2022 and 2x Academic All-Ivy League in the Fall of 2018 and 2019. Jason Liu finished his final collegiate season with a stroke average of 73.14, a career-best. Jason’s current major is in Engineering.






Max TingPrinceton University

Max Ting secured two awards as a freshman in 2019, Ivy League Rookie of the Year and second-team All-Ivy League. Furthermore, in 2020, he was nominated as a GCAA All-America Scholar. Currently, in 2022, he once again got selected to the second-team All-Ivy League. Max Ting, tied for eighth overall in the first round of the Princeton Invitational and attained a stroke average of 75.67.






William HuangPrinceton University

Max’s teammate, William Huang, attained two awards in the 2021-2022 season, 2022 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, and 2022 All-Ivy League Second Team. His stroke average was 73.50 within 6 events. Both Max Ting and William Huang earned second-team All-Ivy League honors as each tied for ninth to lead Princeton at the Ivy League Championships at Century Country Club in Harrison, N.Y.






Ethan NgStanford University
Ethan Ng was named an All-Pac-12 Honourable Mention in 2021 and a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll in 2021 and 2020, making him a brilliant all-rounded student-athlete. His best finish was tied for 6th in the 2020 Southwestern Invitational. Ethan was further selected in the PING All-Region Team in the same year of 2020. His stroke average was 72.88 in 5,903 strokes. Prior to this, Ethan won the NCAA team Champion in 2019. He went on to get selected for the PING All-Region Team in 2020. Ethan's current Major is in Psychology.






Darren LinYale University

In 2021-2022, Darren Lin finished 10th at UC San Diego Golf event and posted a 73.55 average in his 11 tournaments. In 2019-2020, He tied for 21st to help Yale finish fourth as a team at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational. He also tied for 11th in the Bulldogs’ runner-up finish at The Doc Gimmler. In that same year he placed 20th at the Old Town Club Collegiate. Off the Course he is a volunteer goal coach for Rick Hunter Gold Academy.






Jimmy ZhengDuke University
Jimmy Zheng attained the fourth-lowest scoring average all-time by a Duke freshman with a 72.65 in 8 tournaments. Jimmy's collegiate debut was historical as he aced the 14th hole at the camp Creek GC, a 178-yard par 3, in the final round with a five iron. It stands as the program’s fifth hole-in-one on record and first since the 2015-2016 season. He was also tied for 15th at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2 where he fired a 7-over 217.






Kenneth Li Brown University
Kenneth Li placed 18th at the Princeton Invitational. He also competed in the Ivy League Championships, Bash at the beach, BCD Invitational, Georgetown Invitational, and the Yale Invitational. In his Freshman year, he was the top scorer for his University at the Quechee Club Invitational, shooting 72-78 to place 24th individually. That same year, he also competed in the Ivy League Championship, the Princeton Invitational, the Savannah Harbor tournament, the Homewood Hilton Invitational, the Quechee Club Invitational, and the Cornell Invitational.






Kuangyu(Tony)Chen UC Berkeley

Tony Chen a six-foot-tall Australian citizen originally from Shenzhen, China currently plays for the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated a semester early from the prestigious IMG Academy. Over the past four years, he has produced five individual medalist honors and has finished in the top 10 14 times. Additionally, he earned a spot as a Rolex AJGA All-American Honorable Mention in 2018 and was named to the AJGA Scholastic Honor Roll in 2019. Chen is also highly touted in the junior golf rankings. He ended his prep career ranked 131st by AJGA and has ranked as high as 24th and 39th by Golfweek.
